How Brooklyn Residents Can Work Together For Cleaner Neighborhoods

March 16, 2021 by Tim Arnold

Brooklyn has been called one of the dirtiest places in New York City. In reality, New York is a ‘not so clean’ city. You can see empty coffee cups, food parts, empty bottles, plastic bags, and overflowing trash cans beside the street. Brooklyn also has the same image.

But why Brooklyn is so dirty?

There are many reasons. The first reason is the population. A huge population combined with millions of commuters produces tons of trash. As a result, it’s difficult to keep the streets clean.

The second reason is the lack of alleys. The shortage of alleys almost forces the people to make the sidewalks dirty. There is no way to hide the huge amount of garbage.

Moreover, a little group of sanitation workers is recruited to clean the trash. There’s no question that Brooklyn needs more workers to clean its garbage.

Only residents of Brooklyn can help the environment of their surrounding neighborhoods to stay clean. They should come forward to respect their neighborhood. Without them, it’s really hard to keep Brooklyn clean.

How Brooklyn Residents Can Work Together For Cleaner Neighborhoods

1) Spend A Day Cleaning Your Area

Residents of Brooklyn should start by building a cleaning team. They should gather volunteers to clean their area. This cleaning team does not have to be all that large.

For instance – a team of 10 will clean 50 resident’s trash.

Many small teams should work together once a month. If this cleaning operation continues, then Brooklyn streets can become shiny.

2) Request Residents To Keep Their Neighborhood Clean

If residents don’t throw garbage here and there, then there will be much less of a problem wehn it comes to dirty streets. With that in mind, residents of Brooklyn are requested to throw their garbage at the right place.

The volunteers should use placards or highlighted posters to show the trash cans. This will aware residents to keep their area clean. Gradually, it will become a habit and people will throw no garbage on the street. So, teach the residents – how to keep their area clean. It may take some time. Keep in mind, it will be a good practice.

3) Use Empty Places To Hide Garbage Bags

Now it may not be always possible to gather the trash in bins. So, try to find empty places to hide the trash out of site until it can be properly removed. You can also cover these places with a decorative container or wall.

4) Demand For More Waste Cans/ Containers

A heap of garbage can attract more garbage. Hence, residents of Brooklyn should demand more waste containers beside the streets. In reality, the garbage cans on Brooklyn street are not enough to hold the entire garbage. So, Brooklyn’s people should demand more trash cans beside the street.

5) Demand More Cleaners

The cleaners of New York Government are small in numbers. That’s why they fail to clean the entire garbage. So, more cleaners are required to clean the streets. The residents of Brooklyn must send a letter/email to the Government to send more cleaning teams and garbage trucks. If garbage trucks visit frequently, then Brooklyn streets will remain clean.

It’s needless to say that Govt. and Brooklyn dwellers should work together to clean the Brooklyn streets. People should know where to throw garbage and how to dispose of their garbage. Just like they keep up with the appearance of their homes by installing electric fireplaces and similar aesthetic improvements, they should strive to keep their neighborhood clean and hygienic. Government should also extend its helping hand to keep the Brooklyn streets clean.
