Here are a few steps which you can follow to clean up your AC on your own:
#1 First off, disconnect the power supply to your AC.
#2 Remove the air conditioner’s front panel and clean up all the parts with a vacuum cleaner.
#3 There will be filters just behind those grills. They’ll probably be dirty as well, clean them now by using a vacuum cleaner again or by washing them carefully with water and soap if they are cleanable.
#4 Now clean up the compressor unit by using some clean, damp cloth. Make sure it is not too moist else you may damage the electronic components of your air conditioner.
#5 Once done, clean the fan motor with a dry cloth or cotton buds. This will remove all the accumulated dust particles which were stuck on the fan blades or the motor itself.
#6 You can clean up the condensers coils by loosening the bolts and removing the panel attached to it. Now clean it up with a vacuum cleaner thoroughly, remove all dirt particles from its fins and return it back to its position.
#7 Once done, clean up the other parts of your AC like the compressor unit, condenser coils and dry clean the filters with a clean cloth.
#8 Now clean up the front panel of your air conditioner by using some clean cloth dipped in clean water or you can even use some mild soapy solution for cleaning it up if its really dirty. Make sure you don’t leave any puddles behind as this might damage the AC’s internal components once the water dries up.
#9 Now clean clean clean! The cooling fins on each side of the condenser unit will need a good simple cleaning to make sure there is no dust or debris left behind. You can clean them by using a small brush or a kitchen sponge if you have one handy. Then clean up the fins with clean water or mild soapy solution.
#10 Once done, clean up the front panel by using clean water and make sure no puddles of water are left behind to damage any of its internals.
#11 Replace all the clean filters by putting them back in their places after you have dried them up.
#12 Now clean up the condenser’s air conditioner coils by using clean water and a clean cloth, dry it out before returning it back to its position.
#13 Replace all the panels which you have removed till now, clean off any dirt or debris attached to them if necessary.
#14 Connect your AC’s power supply back on once you have put back all the panels and air filters in their place.
#15 Check if your AC is working fine by turning it on, clean up all the parts once more to ensure there are no dust particles or debris left behind. If anything is still visible just clean it up again and move on.
The whole process is quite simple and easy to follow, you won’t even require any professional help to clean your air conditioner. As long as you clean it up regularly the dust and debris will not build up inside your AC that much. You can clean up all the internal components once in two years or so if your air conditioner is used on a regular basis.
