The celebrated Momenta Quartet (Emilie-Anne Gendron and Adda Kridler, violins; Stephanie Griffin, viola; Michael Haas, cello; www.momentaquartet.com) present a concert of new works inspired by the kinship between music and visual art. On the program is Huang Ruo's "Calligraffiti" (2009), a sonic integration of Eastern and Western styles; Kee Yong Chong's Koussevitzky-commissioned "Clouds Surging" (2011), based on a contemporary ink painting by German artist Helena Belzer; and two works by American composer Elizabeth Brown: her luminous, hallucinatory "Mirage" (2008) and "Piranesi" (2006), which features video art by leading photogravure print artist Lothar Osterburg. The composer will join Momenta in collaboration in both pieces, performing on shakuhachi and theremin respectively. An panel discussion with Brown, Osterburg, and Huang Ruo will take place at intermission.
