Late summer is here and the bugs and mosquitoes are out, so the city Department of Health (DOH) has scheduled a round of pesticide spraying on September 3 to combat the spread of West Nile Virus in Brooklyn.

Several lanes leading into the Brooklyn-bound (eastbound) Verrazano-Narrows Bridge toll plaza will be closed overnight May 9-11 and May 13-16 while new drainage systems and electrical conduits are installed. There will be no lane closures on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12.

The Home Reporter and Brooklyn Spectator’s second annual Rising Stars awards and networking cocktail event will take place on Thursday, March 21 at Steiner Studios.

MTA Service for Fourth of July Holiday

The New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) today announced that cooling centers will be open in all five boroughs on Wednesday, June 20^th, at 9:00 AM. They will remain open during regular business hours. According to the National Weather Service, the heat index may be expected to exceed 100 degrees tomorrow. We urge you to please visit the website listed below or our NYC Council website link to OEM, to find the cooling center nearest to your constituents needs.

As you may already be aware, this upcoming Sunday, June 10th, 2012, will be the New York City Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade Festival. In addition to the parade on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, numerous celebrations and after-parade parties occur throughout local New York City neighborhoods in all five boroughs.
