Fashion Week Brooklyn (FWB) hit the ground running on Thursday, March 13 at Sunset Park’s Industry City, beginning with collections of eco-friendly innovative designers from all around the borough.
Hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, the “little weekend that could” started out as Brooklyn Fashion Weekend in May, 2006. Eight years later, FWB – a four-day event – is coming in hot with its Fall/Winter 2014 season titled “Be Bold, Be Strong.”
“It’s about time,” said Adams at the events Borough Hall endorsement on March 4, telling Manhattan to move over. “Manhattan may have their brand but you look at the Brooklyn swagger and we do things a different way.”
At FWB’s opening night, designers My Fabulous Puppy, Iliana Quander, Bridgette Artise and Malcolm Cannon took the runway as well as two full sets of student-made and student-modeled designs from William H. Maxwell High School and the High School of Fashion Industries.
“This is what Brooklyn is all about,” said Creative Director Rick Davy, thrilled to see the fashion show come to fruition.
The shows run through Sunday, March 16. For more information, sponsors and a full schedule, visit www.fashionweekbrooklyn.com.
